Professor Robbins’ research interest spans the areas of cognitive neuroscience, behavioural neuroscience and psychopharmacology, focusing on the frontal lobes and their connections with other systems of relevance to disorders such as schizophrenia, depression, drug addiction, OCD and ADHD. He is the co-inventor of the widely used CANTAB test battery and combines experimental psychological paradigms and functional brain imaging to investigate cognitive functions such as planning, decision-making and self-control, where in the brain such operations are carried out, and how drugs work to produce changes in brain chemistry and affect behaviour.
Professor Robbins has published over 950 full papers and won numerous awards and is considered to be one of the most influential neuroscientists of his generation. Professor Robbins’ current research is focused on impulsive-compulsive disorders (such as OCD and drug addiction) and fronto-striatal systems of the brain and will give a lecture titled “Neurobehavioural Basis of Compulsive Behaviour".
